Female anchors are supplied without a bolt, which must be purchased separately by the installer
Its length depends on two conditions:
- Too short a length could result in the bolt engaging with too few threads in the female thread on the female sleeve anchor, causing either the bolt’s male thread or the sleeve’s female thread to fail.
- An excessive length could result in the tip of the bolt coming into contact with the expansion cone of the anchor before the bolt head rests on the material to be fixed. In this case, the bolt is prevented from advancing, so the application of a successive torque could cause the anchor sleeve to break due to the traction effect that the bolt threads exert on the sleeve.
To calculate the correct bolt length, the indications in the VBT technical documentation must be taken into account:
For example, for a 3/8 female anchor (code HENL038), when the thickness of the material to be fixed is tfix = 10 mm

hmin: minimum concrete thickness | [inches] | 4 | 4” | 4” |
Installation tool | [-] | EXHBM06 | EXHBM08 | EXHBM10 |
- Minimum bolt length = 3/8” + 3 + 10 = 23 mm = 7/8”
- Maximum bolt length = 5/8” + 3 + 10 = 29 mm = 1 – 1/8”
Therefore, the most appropriate solution for this case would be to use a 3/8” x 1” bolt.
For the rest of the installation parameters, the values indicated in the technical documentation must be followed
