Anchors, whether they´re mechanical; chemical or plastic, are very sensitive to the conditions of the drilled hole. That´s why INDEX not only recommends cleaning the area thoroughly regardless of the nature of the product, but we also urge installers to follow the steps outlined in the European certifications of each product to guarantee the features stated in the documentation. However, this factor has the greatest impact on chemical anchors and, in fact, it´s crucial in order to guarantee the performance of this type of anchor.
During the drilling process, part of the dust generated ends up adhering to the walls of the hole, creating a thin layer. According to the way the anchor works, this thin layer will have more or less of an impact.
As we have stated, it has more of an impact with chemical anchors because their operating principle is fixing by adherence. The layer of dust prevents the anchor from adhering correctly to the walls of the hole, resulting in a weaker fixation.
In tests carried out at the INDEX facilities, we´ve been able to verify how performance is reduced by up to 50% when the hole is not cleaned, or cleaning is not carried out correctly.
For the correct cleaning of the hole, we recommend using compressed air at a pressure of less than 7 atmospheres or a MOBOMBA manual cleaning pump, as well as the MORCEPKIT brush kit
In conclusion, we recommend always carefully reading the technical documentation available on the INDEX website www.indexfix.com and strictly following the installation sequence.
