One of our users’ common questions is how to figure out how many cartridges they need for a whole project when it has a considerable number of holes.
In order to calculate the number of cartridges needed for the installation, you must know the following details:
- In which base material it will be carried out: concrete or masonry.
- The number of holes.
- The metric or diameter of corrugated bar that will be used.
- The depth of the installation.
First of all, you need to know the base material that will be used for the installation since the calculation method is different for concrete and masonry. Second, obviously, you need to know the number of fixings so that you can do the calculation.
Third, the size of the fixture helps to determine the right drill bit diameter. Users often use a larger diameter drill than necessary. For further information and to find out which drill bit diameter you need for each metric or reinforcement diameter, see the table below. The last parameter you need to know is the installation depth of the fastening.
SIZE OF THREADED BOLT | [M] | M8 | M10 | M12 | M16 | M20 | M24 | M27 | M30 |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Nominal hole diameter Ød0 | [mm] | 10 | 12 | 14 | 18 | 22 | 26 | 30 | 35 |
SIZE OF CORRUGATED ROD | [Ø] | Ø8 | Ø10 | Ø12 | Ø16 | Ø20 | Ø25 | – | Ø32 |
Nominal hole diameter Ød0 | [mm] | 12 | 14 | 16 | 20 | 25 | 32 | – | 40 |
To prevent users from having to carry out these calculations manually, a tedious process, and so that they do not make any mistakes, INDEX has developed a calculation tool that is available on our website. Follow this link:

Once all the parameters described above have been entered, you can see the results in the summary table (table with a dark blue background). In this table, you can see the quantities of cartridges needed depending on the cartridge format, size in ml. These quantities are only valid for the parameters entered. If you change any of the parameters entered, you must always check that the information has not changed.
Also, once the calculation is complete, we can see the cartridge formats available for each product in the “Compatible Products” table.
Finally, for each cartridge, a small amount must be discarded at the beginning of the extrusion of each cartridge, see FAQ 29. This factor is included in the estimate made by the web tool. As well as this factor, the tool establishes an extra security factor called “Cartridge Use” with three options “Optimal, Good and Poor”. Depending on whether the user chooses one option or another, starting from “Optimal”, the amounts will increase. The estimates carried out with “Optimal” will be more than enough to complete an installation as long as the parameters indicated in the INDEX technical documentation are followed.
In any case, the user has the option to add an extra prevention element to the quantity estimate should other external factors intervene such as human carelessness, inadequate storage, overfilling of the holes, etc.
